It’s the start of another school year! As we embark upon this adventure of a new year I’m filled with excitement for all the possibilities that lie ahead. It’s time for fresh projects, innovative thinking, new-found technology applications and making strong connections with students.
As I met with my classes for the first time this past week, we talked about the importance of being creative this year. In this day and age, it’s crucial for students to learn how to think outside of the box, and to take risks without being afraid of failure. Art is a perfect place for students to learn these skills! I’m hoping that the projects I have created for my students this year allow them to be truly innovative. I love the example below of how a musician is able to take an instrument and make a completely different sound by playing it in an unusual way.

If you aren’t familiar with the Coolidge art program, here is a little video that summarizes some of the projects students did last year. I shared this with my sixth grade classes on the first day so that they could see what types of things they could expect over the next few years.
I think it’s going to be an amazing year ahead!
