It’s the start of a new semester! There is a lot of excitement with all of the new classes and new students embarking on the beginning of their art experience for the year. One of the topics I have talked about with all of the sixth and seventh grade students this week is art journal pages. Journal pages are works of art that students do independently in their sketchbook for homework. These provide students the opportunity to work with subject matters and materials that are interesting to them. They can be collages, drawings, paintings, or something done completely outside the box. I encourage students to do something that is inspiring to them, to be creative, and have fun with these. It is their time to express themselves and show off what they can do on their own.
There are a total of six journal pages due over the course of the entire semester which equals out to about one page a month. Each grade has been given a list of topics in case they need some inspiration. The lists are also posted on the Edline Art page.
The video above is a short collection of journal pages created by select students last semester. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! I can’t wait to see what second semester students come up with!
