Boston Globe Scholastic Art Show

This past week I was able to check out the Gold and Silver Key award winners from the Boston Globe Scholastic Art competition.  I was absolutely blown away with how incredible the artwork was!  Astonishing really is not strong enough of a word to describe what I saw.  Many of the pieces looked like they came from professional artists, yet they were done by Massachusetts students in grades 7-12.  It was truly inspiring to see the level of creativity and craftsmanship in these young artists.

If you have the chance, you should go check out the show before it ends this Sunday!  It is FREE and located at the State Transportation Building, at 10 Park Plaza on the 2nd floor, in Boston.  Their hours are Monday- Friday from 9am – 5pm and Sunday from 9am – 6pm.

I’m posting some photos below in case you don’t have the chance to see it in person.  Coolidge was fortunate to have three 7th grade students represented at the show this year.  Their work is represented three of the photos!  Once is a dress (blue top and patterned bottom), another is a sculpture of a tree and person swinging from it and the last is a collaged piece of eyes that form a person’s profile.

Google Does it Again!

Google has wowed us again!  Last week they unveiled their new Art Project powered by Google.  This is an amazing program that allows anyone to enter into world renowned art museums from around the world with the click your computer.  It uses the Street View technology to help you “walk” through the museum.  Featured art works from the museum are taken an extremely high resolution so you are actually able to see more detail in the painting than if you were standing in front of it at the museum!  Check out the video above to learn more about how to use it.

What are your thoughts about Art Project?  Did you find it easy or difficult to use?  What was your favorite work that you saw and why?

Doodle 4 Google

Google has invited students in grades K-12 to redesign their homepage logo for millions to see!  This year’s theme is, “What I’d like to do someday…” The national winner will receive a $15,000 college scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for the school they attend.  Students are encouraged to think big, be creative and have fun with this challenge!

All students that are interested are invited to participate.  Simply stop by the art room to get registration materials and paper, or click on the Doodle 4 Google link to find out more information.  All designs, entry forms and parental consent forms must be given to Mrs. Doane by Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

If you are interested in checking out other Google doodles that have been done in the past,

We hope to have a lot of entries from Coolidge, so start doodling!
